Where should you place Smoke Alarms in your home?
This will depend on the design of your property, in particular the number of bedrooms, how far they are separated and how many levels are in the house. FESA recommend that smoke alarms be located in all sleeping areas and in all paths of travel between sleeping areas and exits to the open air. In Western Australia, FESA also requires 240-volt mains-powered smoke alarms to be installed by a qualified electrician.
Multi-level houses
In addition to the above provisions, it is recommended smoke alarms be located in the path of travel between each level. On the lower level of a multi-storey property, it may be more appropriate to install a 10 year life battery alam. Contact us for more information.
