From the 1st of October 2009, it became compulsory in Western Australia for all dwelling (ie buildings and homes for rent, sale or hire), built before 1997 to INSTALL and MAINTAIN hard wired smoke alarms.
From October 2009, the following applies:
- Hard-wired smoke alarms must be installed by an electrical contractor [rior to the transfer of the property to another owner (38 N)
- Landlords must ensure that hard-wired alarms are installed prior to the commencement of a new lease (38 N)
- Each smoke alarm needs to remain in working order (38 P)
