Interstate news: Pet saves family from Flemington house fire
Mar 1, 2011
An investigation is underway into a house fire at Coronet Street in Flemington early this morning.
The blaze which destroyed some of the front veranda and front bedroom wall at 1.30am, is being treated as suspicious.
Three boys aged, 4, 9 and 10 were sleeping in the front bedroom at the time of the fire, but were escorted along with their 44 year old mother by their 44 year old father after he was woken by their barking dog.
Police believe someone attempted to light a fire at the bottom of the front mesh door, before lighting a pram on the front veranda on fire, which then spread to the rest of the home.
Nobody was injured during the blaze which was quickly extinguished by neighbours, the family and fire fighters.
The arson chemist examined the scene this morning.
Anyone who may have information about the fire is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit: www.crimestoppers.com.au
